Necessary documents to take to the Orientation camp (FOR THE OTONDOS)
Still
on NYSC, you won’t blame me but we need to inform our new otondos about certain
things before they start building up wrong impressions about NYSC. Now that you
have your call up letter, you’re good to go. My good to go does not include
just taking your clothes and call-up letter and boarding a bus to the
orientation camp. Farabale please!
There
are basic things you need to take along to the orientation camp and they are: Your
final year student ID Card, The Notification of result from your higher
institution (original and photocopies). If you don’t have, go back to your
school and sleep there. Hold on to them like Jacob did to Angel Gabriel and
say, “I will not let you people go until you give me my Notification of result.”
And May God help you with that struggle.
Next
is your passport photographs; don’t go and do oversabi by borrowing your sister
or brother’s khaki to snap. Remember you’re still an otondo, just snap in your
nice outfit (red background). Now that you are aware, you need passport
photographs; it is better you have many copies with you.
Next
is your NYSC Call Up letter (ORIGINAL with photocopies). During the
registration exercise, you will be given some documents, which you will have to
fill, attach your passport photographs and submit to the necessary officers. The
documents are easy to fill and incase you don’t understand some part, don’t keep
silent, approach those who will help you out. Don’t be ashamed to let them put
you through.
Before
you start packing your makeups and clothes and food, please take these
documents first into your bag, for that is the pass into the orientation camp,
otherwise you will be sent back home. Make photocopies from home, cos those
people around the camp will charge you so tey you go just confuse. Trust me, once those Okada men see that you
are a new OTONDO, they will charge you so high and you been a stranger, am sure
you might just have to pay them.
Once
you complete your registration, you will be issued your STATE CODE, which will
be your unique code all through your service year. With this code, you will
then go ahead to claim your mattress and your NYSC kits. I repeat again, write
your state CODE on all your stuffs away from those gumming fingers. You will
then be directed to your hostel where you will stay all through the Orientation
exercise. Once you locate your hostel, the bunks might be labelled, in that
case, find your bunk and get settled. You can then put on your NYSC kit and
jungle boots which will be given to you. Don’t bother parking all your Christmas
clothes to camp for you’ll end up wearing your white shorts and vests, that was
why I said you should buy five white shorts and vests. But if you have decided
not to go back home after the orientation exercise, you can pack all wears to
camp then. For those of you who still want to see mom and dad before finally
marrying NYSC, You can take few wears along, for you might be allowed to be in
Muftis on Sunday for your church/mosque services.
Don’t
forget your waist bag, it costs N400 at the Maami market and you may decide to
buy before coming. It will come handy during parades and any other activities
in camp. Your phones, money and other valuable items can be kept in the waist
bag while carrying out your exercises.
If
you have a digital camera, you can also take it along with you because those
photographers can drain your pockets with their hard to resist photo. I was billed about 3k for all my pictures back
then, because I have no good phone camera to snap. So learn from me, have a good
phone camera or bring your digital camera along, so you won’t have to fully
rely on them for all your photographs. But on the day of passing out,
photographers give out cheap prices and that was why I waited till the last
day, and that turned my 3k pictures to 1,500. Bose ri niyen and please don’t laugh
at me, remember we’re on a mission to help you manage your finances in camp. Lol
I’ve
got to go, and attend to other things. Kindly share and also comment if you
have anything to say.
