A Wife's Unfailing Love for Her Husband

Image
“I, Sarah Adams take you, Lawson Kuti as my lawful wedded husband, to love and to cherish, in sickness and in health, till death do us part” she smiled at him through her veil. “You may now kiss your bride Mr. Lawson” The Pastor beckoned. Lawson’s heart raced as he gently unveiled his bride’s face. She looked so beautiful. He gently bent over and placed a soft kiss on her lips. Sarah in turn embraced him tightly with tears of joy streaming down her face. “Never leave me Sarah” He whispered in her ear. “I will never leave you” she whispered and they slowly released themselves from the embrace. “I present to you the latest couple!” The Pastor exclaimed excitedly. The church cheered and Sarah cried more in her husband’s arms. 5 YEARS LATER Sarah silently tip toed behind her husband. He was in his study, engrossed in reading. She smiled to herself and gently covered his eyes with both hands. “It’s just you and I in this house Sara, plus, I ...

THE BIG BLACK DOG

Image
The Central Referee blew the final whistle, signaling the end of the match. Hisses and abuses, to the extent of curses, could be heard from rows of wooden benches facing the big screens as they stood up, one after the other . Disappointment could be easily read on their faces, as they walked out of the viewing centre . Their beloved Football Club still continues to wallow in her poor form, yet to break the jinx of "one win in one month." Like other fans who had left in dejection, I stood from where I was, at the right corner of the middle row where I watch ed the game wishing for a draw till the 95th minute s . My eyes felt dizzy, legs seemed like a bolt of lead. Chelsea had just disappointed again! I barely made it to the port where my phone was charging . T h e defeat had hit me more than I could imagine . Not because I had played on any form of online sport betting site, but because this weekly English Premier League games seemed the on...

An Encounter between a Young Lady and the Cashier

Image
After weeks of procrastination,  I walked into a popular bank in Lagos to deposit some money early this morning and the bank was unexpectedly busy which meant I had to join a long queue. *sigh* I wasn’t expecting it. So I waited hoping it would finally be my turn and I can escape from the crowd. Before I knew what was happening, a fight ensued between the lady in front of me and the cashier which immediately jolted me from my thoughts. “Answer me! You lack respect, if you were not taught at home, I will teach you manners. What sort of nonsense is this?” The lady was visibly annoyed with the service she had received from the cashier. According to the lady, the cashier had ignored her while she was making certain enquiries about a particular financial transaction. During her rant, the cashier decided to ignore the lady and instead serve other customers without uttering a word or apologising to the lady in question. A man who was behind me admonished the cashier...

Our Class Clique Part 1

Image
There was a particular clique in my class while I was in college. The four girls in this clique went around with shoulders raised high feeling more superior to the rest of us in class.  They speak like the Americans, ( well I do not know if that is the way Americans speak or perhaps they were trying to come up with their own style but I’ve heard them say words like gonna”, “wanna” and “aint” and assumed it must have come from constantly watching American movies.) They were neat students and hardly associate with others except for a few. They bragged practically about everything and bore us with tales of trips abroad, big planes (since just a few of us have ever seen one except in the movies); so they dished out both true and untrue tales of everything and we gulped them like a child would to the tales of his father. I recall a story the girls told us of their fathers who had several exotic cars and had to give some out because “they were too many, they were eatin...
