Brother Peter, Our Youth Leader
“Were you
seeing other ladies while you were still married to her?”
He
hesitated as if unsure of what to say, looked down at his feet for some seconds.
He looked up and said “Yes but I didn’t get them pregnant”
“That is
not the question? The question is, were you seeing other ladies while you were
still married to her”
“Yes I
was.”
“and you didn’t
have any child with them?”
“Yes”
Lawyer Abiokun
Adeigba smiled, walked across the room and suddenly faced him.
“So who is
Zainab?”
He looked
sharply as if pinched with a needle.
“Zainab?
Zainab? I……”
Lawayer
Abiokun Adeigba laughed loudly.
“Zainab
was a one-time lover and she claimed to have a child with me”
“She claimed
you have a child with her?”
“Yes” he
replied
“So you didn’t
have any sexual intercourse with her? the child she has jumped on her and she
suddenly became pregnant?”
He looked
at the Lawyer Abiokun, unsure of what to say.
“You brought
someone to court for extra marital affairs and you are also guilty of same
offence?"
“She
cheated. She did…..”

SCENE ONE
Brother
Peter our new youth leader is so handsome! Tall, dark with a very cute smile
that kills all the ladies. He has a way of switching his mouth to the side
anytime he addresses us and most of the time, we were usually so mesmerised by his
looks and style than what he was saying.
We look
forward with excitement to the fellowship monthly meeting as it affords us the
opportunity to see Brother Peter again except on rare occasions where you
bumped into him.
“……….Like
when Lagos and Abuja meets” Brother Peter bursts out laughing in the middle of
his speech.
We all
laughed too even as most of us were not paying attention. In my mind, I was
already fantasizing about how I will be the envy of the ladies if I dated
Brother Peter but then again, I was the least of the person Brother Peter would
want to date as I wasn’t as beautiful as the other ladies in my fellowship.
“He is
handsome. Oh my God!” Tola tapped me and that jolted me from my thoughts.
I wasn’t
even aware that Tola was beside me as I was already deep in thoughts.
“Yes he
is. But I told you.”
I watched
Tola admiringly looked at Brother Peter and I was somehow shocked as Tola had
brushed me off when I first spoke to her about Brother Peter and his lovely looks. Tola
had been absent from fellowship meetings as she has been so busy with her
Masters Program.
After the
service, Tola dragged me and we both walked over to Brother Peter and greeted
him.
“Good
afternoon Brother Peter”, I said
“Good
afternoon Lilian”
“Please
meet my friend. Her name is Tola. She is a member of the fellowship but haven’t
been around due to her Master’s program.”
“Nice to
meet you Tola”, Brother Peter said
“Same
here” Tola said in one of her cutest voice.
“I will
like to discuss something with you sir.” Tola said
What does
she want to discuss with Brother Peter? But Tola never mentioned discussing any
issue with him. She stylishly told me to excuse them and I did.
After
about thirty minutes, Tola joined me where I was seated. To douse off my curiosity,
I wanted to know what they both discussed but Tola brushed it off and said I shouldn’t
bother as the matter discussed wasn’t that important.
Two weeks
later, Tola was made the assistant choir leader of the church.
“Lilian?
How far now?”
“I am
fine Tola. How are you doing?”
“Very
fine. So you have started ignoring me right?” Tola said.
“How?”
“What
stops you from saying hi after the service?” She asked.
“Don’t be
annoyed please. I needed to rush home to sort out some things” I replied .her
“Anyway,
I have good gist for you.”
“Gist?
What’s good?” I asked
“Brother
Peter and I are dating” she said lovingly.
“Oh! Really?”
“Yes! He
asked me out of course and I agreed” she said.
“Oh!
That’s nice”
“Thank
you. We went out on our second date last week Friday and it was fun!” She emphasized
the fun. She continued “But I need you to tell me more about him please” Tola said.
“But I
thought you just went out on your second date? I should be asking you about
him. Brother Peter joined the fellowship a week after I told you about him. I don’t
really know him too.”
Tola
probably didn’t believe me because she ended the discussion and walked away and
that was the last time we ever came close to discuss about Brother Peter. Because
seven months after, they got married and it was fairy tale wedding, the talk of
the town for months.
Tola of
course became the envy of other ladies who were hoping that they would be the
lucky lady. If only the other ladies knew perhaps they would have been the happiest……
