Brother Peter, Our Youth Leader (Part two)

SECOND PART

The lawyer looked at him distastefully; “How wicked can a man be? How could you do that to a woman that loved you so deeply”

“I didn’t mean to impregnate her. Zainab lied.”

“You are confusing this court. You said it was a mistake and now Zainab lied? But the child looked like you!”

“A child can take the face of a stranger” he retorted.

“Mr. Man! Respect yourself. We are not here to joke at all! Tell us what happened on the 24th of May?”

“24th of May?” he bowed his head and then looked up.

“Nothing happened on that day.” the man said.

Lawyer Abiokun Adeigba laughed deeply. “Here comes the joker.”

The judge interfered.

“Lawyer Abiokun, be fast please. We cannot take the whole day on this matter.”

“I am sorry, my Lord.” Lawyer Abiokun replied respectfully.

“I won’t repeat myself anymore. Tell this court what happened on the 24th of May.” Lawyer Abiokun asked again.

“On the 24th of May, I…………”

LILIAN'S PART

Tola remained the envy of all the single ladies in church. How she bagged such a handsome and most sought-after bachelor in the fellowship remained a surprise to everyone but I guessed she played the part so well.

I see Tola every Sunday at the fellowship and that was the only chance we get to talk. We were gradually drifting away perhaps due to her change in marital status.

TOLA'S PART

The day I married Peter was one of the happiest days of my life. Peter was my dream man and oh how beautiful it was to be finally married to him. Thank God for Lilian who introduced us.

A good looking, God fearing man and a worker in the fellowship is not someone I would want to miss. Thus, I strategically positioned myself in such a way that Peter would find me more appealing. I approached him, collected his phone number and the rest is now history.

The honeymoon was perfect! Oh it was beautiful! It was magical! My dreams became a reality and it was all that I had imagined and even more. I stared lovingly at Peter who was fast asleep on the bed as if I had won a prize and of course I did. I knew I had become the envy of other ladies. I knew thousands of ladies were dying to be in my shoes and to be the one the one he chose was a blessing to me.

Our few first months of marital bliss was perfect, Peter was the man I had imagined him to be. He loved the things to God and always willing to do the most for me.

I thanked the stars every day for making Peter mine. The phone rang and jolted me from my thoughts. It was Peter’s phone and he was in the bathroom. So, I decided to receive the call.

“Hello” I answered the call.

“Hello Peter, I have been trying to reach you now. Where are you?” a lady’s sweet voice answered

I was curious. I wanted to know who the lady was. Therefore, I pretended to be Peter’s sister.

“This is Uncle Peter’s sister. How may I help you?”

“Oh! Kindly tell him that Tope called please.”

“Tope from where please?”

“Just tell him Tope. He knows” she said

“Alright. No problem” I said and ended the call.

Tope must be one of his friends I thought and berated myself for doubting the trust of my lovely Peter. I informed Peter when he came out of the bathroom.

His expression reads nothing, and he was even thankful that I delivered the message.

“Who is Tope?”

“A former colleague. I met her and her husband at the mall during of my lunch break last week. She also works in an audit firm.”

“Oh”

“Yes” he replied and kissed me deeply and we ended up in bed afterwards. One of those magical moments again.

TOPE, Peter former colleague as he said, came visiting one day. She was very beautiful, tall and fair.

“You must be Mrs. Paul?” she said sweetly.

“Yes I am. Please who are you?” I asked.

“My name is Tope…” I cut her off as the name registered in my mind.

“Oh Tope? Peter’s former colleague?” I smiled.

She looked surprised and quickly gave a flashing smile that took away the expression. We hugged, and I welcomed her into our apartment.

“You have a beautiful home Mrs. Paul.” she said.

“Thank you, Mrs. Tope”

“So, what will you like to take?” I said.

“I am fine Mrs. Paul. Please don’t bother.” She said.

Just then Peter came in with a very bright smile on his face.

“Tope, how are you?”

“I am fine Peter. How are you doing too?” she asked.

“Perfectly okay as you can see” He said.

“Let me get you something. Nobody comes into our house and leave without taking anything. “I interrupted their conversation and dashed into the kitchen to make Semovita.

I walked in on them when I was done, to set the table and we all settled down to eat.

TOPE became a familiar face in our house and was always welcomed. Peter would sometimes come home late on the excuses of him and Tope working together on a project.

Peter was still very active in the fellowship and was recently promoted to the role of a technical adviser for the Youth fellowship. I was also very involved in the choir department and was such a dedicated worker.

LILIAN’S PART

I didn’t know whether to inform Tola or perhaps keep it to myself. We weren’t as close as we were before. Perhaps we would have been forced to still keep the communication alive if I was in the same department with her.

There were certain things I needed to tell her, but I was stuck. I don’t know if Tola would believe me, I do not want to seen by others as either being jealous or being the one that would douse the flame of marital bliss.

But then time favoured my next meeting with Tola. I saw her during one of our fellowships and we exchanged greetings and even spoke for a while. I had a nugde in my spirit to inform her about what I know and the other part of me warned me not to. So I asked;

“Tope, how is Brother Peter now?”

“Fine o. He’s having a meeting with the Pastor” She blushed excitedly and said “See, I am blessed to have Peter in my life. Marriage is so sweet. He is my rock and my everything.” She went on singing the praises of her husband and those words were the final reason as to why I should keep what I was about to reveal to myself.

“That’s good” I said uninterested.

“So, are you seeing someone now?” she asked.

“Not really” I answered.

“It is time to get serious Lilian. You are not getting any younger” she said.

“I will. I am hopeful for the will of God for my life”

“And the LORD will give to you as you have spoken to His ears.” Tola prayed.

“Amen.” I answered.

Just then, Peter came up to us.

“Hello Lilian”

“Hello Peter” I said.

He faced Tola, “Honey, I just received a call right now. I am needed right away in the office.” I stared deeply at Peter, oblivious of the conversation between him and Tola.

“Lilan! Lilian! Lilian!!” Tope tapped me.

“What is wrong with you? Peter is talking to you.”

“Oh! So sorry” I faced Peter; “Please what were you saying?”

“Are you okay Lilian?” he asked.

“I am fine” I answered.

“Well Just saying bye to you.” He said.

He left us and walked away.

“Are you fine Lilian?” Tola asked.

I nodded. But I needed to let Tola know. I needed to allow her see the beast in the sheep’s clothing. I needed to let her know how many other ladies make fun of her because they share same bed with her precious. I needed to let her know so many things but how do I start?”.

“I have something to tell you Tola.”

“I knew it. I knew you had something to say. You can’t be looking lost like this and not be bothered about anything.”

“Your………….”

Should a single lady interfere in the affairs of the married? I looked at her deeply. Can she handle this information?
