How to deal with your tough colleague (s) at work

This is one of the major issues facing some employees; and some have probably compared their last place of work to the present and felt pushed to opt out. But no, you can’t!

You may feel that I do not understand the situation, but trust me I do and probably been through worst. But the main thing is that you should not allow your emotions to overcloud your sense of reasoning. A Real man is best known based on how he was able to handle situations and comport himself during difficult times and that include having to drink several cups of patience because if you decide to opt out based on the treatment in your recent organisation; then you may be heading for the worst.

The situation therefore calls for more wisdom; first of all, ask God to help you. Human beings will come up with different issues that you may not understand. Some may spring out of jealousy; hatred and what have you. There may even be cases when your boss just wants to be bossy and another employer controls like he is the owner of the company. Just be patient!

The point is you have a goal to achieve with the organisation; continue working towards that goal and make sure that you make a distinctive record on it. Perhaps, you may have forgotten, just pick up your employment letter to refresh your mind. You may not be appreciated while you are still there but trust me, you will be missed while you’re gone; because your records will speak for itself.

Be focused on your goal; don’t be distracted; don’t be too playful to allow for insults. Set a gap, know your limit and make them know you. It is necessary to make your other colleagues know the real you, so that they know the limit to which they can step on your toes. But that is no excuse for you to display your agberoism. Lest I forget, stay on your desk and stop nosing into other people’s affairs; that will save you a whole deal. Don’t discuss other employees with another employee; put off that habit; Tables turn! Be focused on your goal and don’t be distracted.

If there are issues that makes you feel uncomfortable or threatened, kindly report to your to your admin officer or HR manager; let them know how threatened and unsafe you are on your job and allow them call your other colleagues to ask questions.

A friend of mine shared an experience where a male colleague threatened to slap her because she wanted to clear the air surrounding certain issues. That’s how bad some issues can be. But do not give up!

If you can survive that harsh office environment, you can survive anywhere! Trust me. Take that place as a training ground in preparing you to be a tough and better individual. *smiles*
